AION 2 Diving Mechanics: Underwater Exploration, Breath and Combat

How diving works in AION 2 — automatic underwater mode, the breath timer, underwater gathering and combat across a fully seamless land-sea-sky world.

The original AION conquered the sky. AION 2 comes for the ocean floor too: the world is seamlessly connected across land, sea and air, and diving is not a special zone — it's a layer of the map you can enter at will.
Diving Is Automatic
Walk into the water and your character transitions into swim/dive mode without any prompt or item. There's no unlock quest and no gear requirement — the entire underwater world is available from the start.
The Breath Timer Is the Only Law
Underwater survival runs on a limited breath meter. Stay down too long and you drown — the timer is generous enough for exploration loops but not for AFK sightseeing. Plan dives as circuits: down, gather or fight, surface, repeat.
What's Actually Down There
- Exploration: sunken ruins and sea-floor terrain that continue the overworld's geography seamlessly
- Combat: you fight underwater — both PvE packs and the ocean layer of the faction war that anchors the global version's pitch
- Gathering: the water hides dense material nodes. Extracting essence from underwater resources feeds the same gathering professions as land mining, and the best nodes are often the least farmed
Why It Matters
The sea layer is a genuine frontier: fewer players contest it, so gatherers and explorers get first pick. Combine it with the 36x-scale world and the seamless flight system and the result is an MMO where all three dimensions are playable space.
