NC has confirmed AION 2 launches globally on PC in 2026 through Steam and Purple, bringing the Unreal Engine 5 MMO to North America, South America, Europe and Japan.

NC has officially confirmed what MMORPG fans have been waiting for: AION 2 is coming to global PC markets in 2026. The sequel has been live in South Korea and Taiwan since late 2025, and the worldwide rollout targets North America, South America, Europe and Japan through two storefronts — Steam and NC's own Purple platform.

What the Global Launch Means

For the first time, Western players will get a native path into Atreia instead of routing around region locks. The global service runs on the same Unreal Engine 5 client that powers the Asian version, complete with the series' signature flight combat and a world roughly 36 times larger than the original game.

The original AION launched in 2008 and pulled in more than 7 million monthly active users at its peak. Its sequel leans on that legacy: aerial PvP, faction war between the Elyos and Asmodians, and a fully manual combat model — now rebuilt around modern hardware.

A Crowded MMO Market Awaits

The timing is ambitious. World of Warcraft still dominates the established audience, while Lost Ark proved that Eastern MMOs can break out globally when the combat and monetization land right. AION 2 enters that contest with a recognizable IP, a modern engine, and a free-to-play model — but also with baggage: the Asian launch drew criticism over monetization and botting, issues NC says it has since improved through updates.

Whether the global version sticks the landing is one of 2026's biggest MMO storylines. We'll be tracking every announcement between now and launch — start with our underwater combat and global release window breakdown and the official PC requirements.
